As a result of ongoing investigation, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury), the Youth Violence Strike Force (Gang Unit) and the Special Investigations Unit arrested suspect, David G. Singleton, 21, of Hyde Park early this morning around 12:20AM and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm: Second Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.
Officers having learned of the possibility that a shooting was going to take place around midnight in the area of Fayston St. by the suspect set up surveillance. While on surveillance, officers observed the suspect accompanied by two males exit 85-87 Fayston St. around 11:30PM and remain on the front porch consistent with information that officers had received. Officers continued surveillance and at approximately 12:20AM, the suspect was observed quickly running down from the porch down Fayston St. toward Blue Hill Avenue. Officers, at this time, feeling that the suspect was about to engage in a shooting converged upon him to prevent him from arming himself and possibly shoot someone else. The officer doing the surveillance, overheard the suspect exclaim, “…bring it now!”
As officers approached the suspect, one of the two males who was on the porch with him fled back inside the house. The suspect, once stopped, was not found to be in possession of a firearm. Based on the information received, the statements exclaimed by the suspect just before being stopped, officers believed that the suspect who fled back inside the house was in possession of the gun. Officers responded to the house where they spoke to the suspect who had fled back inside the house; that suspect was extremely nervous while talking to officers and consistently attempted to detract officers ‘ attentions from the room where he claimed he had been watching the game. A female who was in the room also attempted to detract officers’ attentions from the room and attempted to close the door when officers approached the room.
The suspects were transported to the district and the house “frozen” pending issuance of a search warrant. The suspect who lived in the bedroom however opted to give officers consent to search the room and once officers responded there they found a loaded semi-automatic firearm. Based on information received during the interview of all parties, and previously attained information, officers arrested the suspect and charged him with the above offenses.
