Multi-Agency Effort Removes 51 Fugitives From City StreetsOn Thursday, April 2, 2009, members of the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force and the Boston Police Fugitive & Apprehension Team, in collaboration with the Massachusetts State Police, US Marshall’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office, initiated and conducted Operation PAWS, a proactive warrant sweep. The goal of Operation PAWS is to send a clear message to those individuals who choose to ignore their responsibility and answerability with respect to the judicial process. Operation PAWS also targets those involved in gang-related activities. By locating and arresting such individuals on outstanding warrants, the department seeks to reduce gang violence and augment the level of intelligence necessary to prevent future gang-related hostilities.
The operation enabled officers to effect 51 arrests.
Of the 51 arrests made, the arrest of Scott Riley, 39, of Boston is especially note-worthy or, at the very least, ironic when one considers the name of the operation: PAWS. Riley, who was found hiding in a crawlspace at 112 Beaumont Street, was arrested with assistance provided by the Boston Police K-9 Unit.
