ROBBERY #1: (TODAY)DETAIL OFFICERS FOIL DOWNTOWN BANK ROBBERY
GREATER POLICE PRESENCE LEADS TO GREATER PROTECTION

At about 9:10am, today, Thursday, April 2, 2009, officers form Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a bank robbery at the Sovereign Bank at 279 Massachusetts Ave. On arrival, officers spoke to security officers/employees of the bank who stated that a white male in his late 20’s wearing a blue jacket entered the bank and passed a note that read, “I have a gun .. give me all your money.” After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, security officials say they watched the suspect flee the bank and enter a taxi cab (brown and white in color). Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect and the cab over the police radio. In short time, detail officers working in the area of Ipswich and Lansdowne Streets observed a cab carrying a passenger fitting the description of the suspect. As a result, officers approached and stopped the cab. When officers attempted to enter the cab, a violent struggle ensued. During the course of the altercation, the suspect dropped an undisclosed amount of money in and around the cab. Once in custody, the suspect stated, “I robbed the bank.”
Officers arrested Glenn Carbonneau, 35, of Quincy and charged him with Armed Robbery (bank), Assault & Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.
