BPD Officers Arrest One On Drug ChargesOn Monday, March 30, 2009, Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force, were traveling on Harvard Street when they observed three males on the corner of Harvard / Westcott Street engaging, in what officers believed to be, behavior consistent with that of the illegal sale of narcotics. Officers observed the parties to conduct a hand-to-hand transaction before noticing the officers’ presence. One of the suspects then split off from the group and walked across Harvard Street towards Glenway.
Officers approached the suspect and called to him to stop. The suspect ignored the officers’ request and continued walking. As the officers got closer, the suspect placed the contents of his closed hand into his mouth. Officers recognized this to be a common practice for individuals to destroy illegal narcotics in their possession prior to a law enforcement encounter. The suspect quickly turned around and struck one of the officers with a closed hand. A struggle ensued and the suspect continued to strike officers before being placed into custody. During the struggle, the suspect spit out two (2) bags of crack cocaine, weighing approximately Seven (7) grams.
Officers arrested Carlos Banks, 36, of Boston on the charges of Possession of a Class B Substance (crack cocaine), Possession of a Class B Substance With Intent To Distribute Within 1000 feet of a School Zone (Sara Greenwood School), Assault & Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. Officers also arrested Craig Davis, 32, of Boston on several outstanding arrest warrants.
