Youth Violence Strike Force Arrests Juvenile, Recovers Loaded Firearm in Hyde Park

At about 7:25 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an on-site firearm arrest of a 17-year-old juvenile male in the area of Garfield Avenue.

Officers were on directed patrol in the area of the Fairmount Development in response to an armed robbery that occurred two days prior, on September 15, 2026. While on patrol, officers observed two males walking on Dana Avenue toward Washington Street, one of whom matched the description of the armed robbery suspect. Officers made several observations, including that the two males continued to observe the location and position of the officers’ cruiser.

Officers conducted a U-turn and pulled alongside the two males after believing one of them was involved in the prior armed robbery. As officers exited their cruisers, the 17-year-old juvenile male fled on foot while simultaneously grabbing his waistband. The other juvenile male remained on scene and was later released.

After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to safely apprehend the 17-year-old juvenile male. As officers attempted to place the juvenile in handcuffs, he remained on his back and refused to move, limiting officers’ ability to properly handcuff and frisk him. Officers were able to turn the juvenile male onto his side and observed that the backpack he was wearing was unzipped and open. In plain view, officers observed a firearm inside the backpack.

Officers immediately placed the juvenile male in handcuffs and requested that detectives respond to the scene. The firearm was determined to be a black SIG Sauer SP2022 .40 caliber with an attached laser. The firearm was loaded with a total of twelve (12) rounds, with one (1) round in the chamber.

The 17-year-old juvenile male is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on the following charges:

  • Delinquent to Wit: Carrying a Firearm Without a License
  • Delinquent to Wit: Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
  • Delinquent to Wit: Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card
  • Delinquent to Wit: Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
