At about 1:49 AM, on Monday, August 12, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Jose Rafael, 27, of Boston and Aristy Wellington, 28, of Bronx, New York, for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Officers were on patrol in the area of 477 River Street when they observed a group of individuals arguing. Officers lost sight of the group and then observed multiple people in the middle of the street waving officers down and saying that there was a fight.
Officers could see the victim being kicked by one suspect, and another suspect stabbing the victim. Officers immediately intervened and were able to place the suspects into handcuffs. Detectives responded to the area and were able to recover a knife.
Officers began to render medical aid, and requested for Boston EMS to respond to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Wellington was placed under arrest and charged with Two Counts of Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon. Rafael was placed under arrest and charged with Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon. Both are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
