This morning around 12:29AM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested suspect, Jumanne C. Mobley, 20 of Roxbury and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
Officers initially responded to the area of 74 Bower St. for a group of people arguing and making a lot of noise.
On arrival, officers observed a large group of people hanging out in front of 64 Bower Street. Officers got out of their car and started trying to disperse the group when they observed a member of the group pointing aggressively at a parked car and yelling. Officers approached the car which had its engine running, and noticed that it was occupied by four individuals, one of who had an open bottle of vodka between his legs ad also some fireworks in the front passenger seat floor.
Officers ordered the occupants out of the car based on the appearance of the occupants (not looking of age to drink) and the presence of fireworks to determine if there was any more contraband in the car. As the rear passenger, suspect Mobley got out of the car, officers saw him support his waistband with his forearm and turn his body away from officers in a manner consistent with someone who is armed. Officers asked the suspect to remove his forearm from his waistband but he did not comply. Officers now fearing that the suspect may be armed, based on his body movement and failure to comply with directions, immediately reached around the suspect’s waist and immediately determined by feel the shape of a gun. Upon feeling the gun in the suspect’s waist, the gun slipped through the suspect’s shorts and landed on the ground. The gun was secured and the suspect placed under arrest for the above charges.
The operator of the car after further investigation was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle with Suspended License, and for Possession of Fireworks. The other passenger who had the alcohol in his possession was cited for Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.
