Early this morning around 6:30AM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the area of Pontiac Street for a report of a car break. While en route, officers were updated that an off duty officer and a victim had observed the suspect trying car doors and actually gain access to a car on Oscar Street.
On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who whop reported that he was walking when he observed the suspect pulling down his passenger side window in order to gain access to his car. The victim stated that he along with an off duty officer then began to follow the suspect as he continued to make his way through several streets and go into the driveway of a the Boston Public Library building which had several clearly marked “ No trespassing Signs.” As the suspect continued to try to evade police officers and the victim, an officer performing a detail nearby joined in the pursuit of the suspect and was able to stop him just before he entered 61 Smith Street.
Once placed in custody, officer recovered three GPS units from the suspect which he confirmed were stolen at the booking desk post-Miranda saying, “I will be straight with you, I took all this stuff from cars around the Hill side…” The suspect, Joshua Perez, 23 of Roxbury was arrested and charged with Trespassing, Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, Larceny of Auto Accessories over $250 and Receiving Stolen Goods.
