Van Owner Catches Suspect Breaking Into His Vehicle

At about 11:44 pm, on Friday, June 10, 2011, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a call for a person or persons breaking into a van in the area of 40 Harlow Street in Roxbury. While en route to the call, officers learned that the victim (the operator of the van) had one of the suspects in custody.  On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was returning to his van when he observed two individuals inside his van trying to steal his tools. The victim told police when he confronted the suspects, one of the suspects was able to get away while the other wasn’t.   
Officers arrested Edgardo Rodriguez, 29, of Boston and charged him with Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle (Night) and Receiving Stolen Goods. 

Officers observed and noted damage to the van’s door side handle indicating that the door may have been forced or pried open.
