At about 11:55pm, on Friday, June 10, 2011, an officer performing a paid detail in the area of 25 Union Street (Hennessy’s Bar) observed a verbal altercation between employees of the bar and a patron being asked to leave the premises. When the officer approached the altercation, the patron began to verbally disparage and disrespect the officer. Bar employees told the officer that the patron had worn out his welcome. When the officer informed the patron that he was no longer welcome inside the establishment, the patron refused to leave the area and continued to yell and scream at the officer. When told that his refusal to adhere to the officer’s legal instructions could result in his arrest, the patron stated he didn’t care and had no trouble coming up with bail money. At one point, the patron attempted to throw money at the officer. Moreover, the patron stated that he had a relative who worked in the State House and because of this relationship, he could and would have the officer fired.
When back-up units arrived, the patron was given one final opportunity to leave the area. When he refused, he was taken into custody.
Officers arrested Matthew Cullen, 22, of Stoneham and charged him with Disorderly Conduct.
