About 1:20AM on Tuesday, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to 71 Callender Street for shots fired notification through the “Shot Spotter.” A few moments later, officers were advised that another “Shot Spotter” activation had just taken place on Boyden St. near Oakhurst Street, a short distance from Callender Street..
Officers immediately responded to the area and within moments observed a motor vehicle traveling towards them. Officers stopped the car in light of the fact that no other cars or people were in the area in order to further investigate the possibility of this car having been involved in the shots fired incident. Officers topped the car which was occupied by five occupants and asked them some questions about whether they had any heard anything. The occupants contradicted each other in their responses coupled with familiarity with one of the occupants raised officers concerns about this car having possibly been involved in the shots fired incident. While speaking to the occupants, officers observed a marijuana grinder on the lap of the driver which caused officers to ask the driver if there was any marijuana in the car to which the operator answered affirmatively.
Officers removed all the occupants out of the car, and pat frisked the occupants without any weapons or drugs being found. Officers then frisked the car and located a firearm under the driver’s seat.
The driver, David Moreland, 24 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Subsequent Offense, and Armed Career Criminal.
