Last night around 6:43PM, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a hit and run motor accident at the intersection of Blue Hill Ave. and River Street.

On arrival, officers spoke to the occupants of two cars who had been struck by a suspect motor vehicle which fled the scene Cummins Hwy. toward Roslindale Square.  Officers, after getting the information about the direction of flight, proceeded in that direction and caught up to the suspect motor vehicle near the intersection of Cummins Hwy and Favre Street.  Officers followed the suspect motor which was traveling on only three wheels with lights and sirens to Cummins Hwy and Mt. Calvary St. where the suspect vehicle finally stopped.  It should be noted that the suspect was operating on only three wheels during the time that she was followed by officers with sparks flying from the contact of the rim to the pavement.

Once stopped, officers approached the car the operator just stared blankly at officers despite being ordered out of the vehicle. Officers eventually unlocked the suspect’s car door and officers asked the suspect operator if she had noticed that the police patrol wagon that had been behind her for some time with lights and sirens and she replied that she had not. Suspect operator was asked if she recalled hitting some vehicles in Mattapan Square and she exclaimed, “No, I didn’t!” Officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car and observed the suspect’s eyes to be glassy and bloodshot. Officers asked the suspect operator if she had anything to drink and she replied, “I had a couple of drinks.” Officers additionally observed the suspect’s speech to be heavy and slurred.

The suspect was asked to exit the car for the purpose of taking some sobriety tests and upon exiting, was immediately observed to be unsteady on her feet. Several sobriety tests were administered to the operator and she failed all of them. Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers formed the opinion that the suspect’s ability to safely operate her car had been compromised by virtue of her consumption of alcohol. The suspect, Anne Michalik, 53 of Roslindale was arrested and charged with Operating under the Influence of Alcohol, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Property Damage.
