At about 8:12am, on Sunday, November 14, 2010, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a call for a breaking and entering at 1545 Tremont Street (Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, aka, the Mission Church) in Roxbury. On arrival, officers spoke with church personnel who stated that the church had been broken into sometime during the previous night. Church personnel further stated that a stained glass window, estimated to be over a hundred years old and located on the side of the church, had been smashed. Officers observed broken glass in and around the area where the window was located. Church personnel also reported that a smaller window found inside the church had been broken as well.
In addition to the broken windows, church personnel further stated that two poor boxes, otherwise known as a collection boxes, were broken into and money was taken. Church personnel estimate anywhere between two to three hundred dollars may have been inside the collection boxes. Officers noted and observed damage to both boxes.
