Vigilant Witnesses Assists in Apprehension of B&E Suspect

Around 6:04PM last night, Sunday, September 19, 2010, officers from District A-1 (Downtown Boston) responded were on patrol in the area of Tremont and Temple Streets when they approached by a passerby witness  who told them that he had just observed a suspect break into a car.

The witness then informed officers that his friends had followed the suspect into the Boston Commons and were still following the suspect. Officers proceeded into the Boston Commons and stopped the suspect opposite 138 Tremont Street. The suspect was positively identified by witness and several of his friends and consequently detained. Officers then responded to the location where the suspects had observed the suspect breaking into the car and there observed a car with its window broken.

The witnesses then told officers that they were walking through the Public Gardens when they heard glass break and observed the suspect leaning into the broken window of a car parked on Charles St. and removing items from the car.

The suspect, Jamie Kitchens, 34 of Boston was then placed under arrest and charged Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Burglarious Tools after a number of stolen items and a burglarious tool were found on his person.
