Around 1:31AM today officers from District D-4 (South End) on patrol received a radio call for a robbery report in front of 850 Washington Street.
On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that he was robbed somewhere in the vicinity of the Boston Herald building. The victim, who is from out of town and unfamiliar with the area, to be specific reported that the suspects held a knife to his throat and asked him for his ATM pin number which he gave the suspects. In addition to his the PIN number to his ATM card, the suspects also took the victim’s two messenger bags which had his clothing and personal items. The suspects then fled the area.
The victim declined medical attention and was driven around to see if the suspects or the victim’s items could be located. While canvassing the area, the victim had stated that there was a female present when he was attacked and described her as wearing a camouflaged colored shirt. Officers observed a female matching the description given by the victim on Frontage Rd. by W Fourth Street. The victim stated that the female was not involved in the robbery but was present during it.
Officers conducted a threshold inquiry of that witness and she stated to officers that she observed three males “jump” the victim and stated to the officers she might know the location of the bank card. Officers then observed a black male and a black female walking underneath the overpass of 93S in between the W Fourth Street Bridge and the Broadway Bridge. One officer observed the black male breathing heavy and sweating profusely. Officers then asked the suspect where he was coming from and he replied “I’m coming from Dorchester Street.” The suspects were detained pending a possible identification where he was positively identified by the victim. The suspect, Wade Crawford, 52 of Boston was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery.
Officers and the female canvassed the area surrounding the underpass and were able to locate a Wachovia Visa debit card belonging to the victim.
