DETAIL OFFICER ARRESTS ONE FOR SHOPLIFTING, ANOTHER FOR DISTURBING THE PEACE IN CHARLESTOWN

At about 5:13pm, on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, an officer performing a paid detail on Area A-15 (Charlestown) responded to a radio call for a shoplifter at 5 Austin Street (CVS). On arrival, the detail officer spoke to CVS employees who stated that a white female, observed stealing items, had just exited the store. The officer exited the store and quickly located the suspect outside the CVS. When the detail officer informed the suspect that she had been accused of stealing items from the CVS, the suspect stated, “What for a tootsie roll I just stole?” When the officer attempted to escort the suspect back to the CVS, the suspect began to pull away. When the officer attempted to cuff the suspect, another individual intervened on behalf of the suspect. That individual, herein referred to as suspect #2, yelled, “She didn’t do nothing.” Two good samaritans intervened on behalf of the officer until back up officers arrived on scene.

When back up officers arrived, both suspects were taken into custody.

Officers arrested Briahnna Haines, 18, of Lynn and charged her with Shoplifting, Resisting Arrest and Disturbing the Peace. Officers arrested Edward Diaz (suspect #2), 25, of Lynn and charged him with Disturbing the Peace.

DETAIL OFFICER ARRESTS ONE FOR BEING DISORDERLY AT THE SCOOPER BOWL

At about 5:58pm, on Wednesday, June 10, 2010, an officer performing a paid detail at the Scooper Bowl in the area of One City Hall Plaza responded to a radio call for an altercation or fight taking place in the area of the event. (The Scooper Bowl is the nation\’s largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival, serving up ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet from nine of the nation\’s leading ice cream companies.) Upon locating the altercation, officers promptly separated the parties. According to witnesses, one of the combatants, herein referred to as the suspect, was attempting to get a refund from the Scooper Bowl staff. When the suspect was refused a refund, she began to verbally berate Scooper Bowl employees. Officers instructed the suspect to leave the area. However, instead of leaving, the suspect began to verbally disparage and disrespect the officers.
