POLICE CATCH TWO GRAFFITI VANDALS

At about 11:32pm, on Friday, June 4, 2010, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for vandalism taking place in the area of 195 St. Botolph Street. On arrival, officers were directed to the rear of the location. While walking to the rear of the location, officers heard a hissing sound consistent with the sound made when an aerosol can is being discharged. When officers got to the rear of the location, officers clearly observed two individuals wearing rubber gloves and holding cans of spray paint.  When the individuals saw the officers approaching, one of the suspects uttered an obscenity. In addition to being able to smell a strong odor of paint, officers also observed what looked to be fresh paint on two fences.  Officers also observed and recovered a black back pack found resting on the ground.  Upon looking inside the backpack, officers observed and took possession of five additional cans of spray paint.

Officers arrested Felix Santiago, 19, of Boston and Frank Prieto, 17, of Boston and charged both with Damage to Property by Graffiti.

BROKEN CHARDS OF GLASS HELP OFFICERS ID SUSPECT

At about 11:31pm, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a person breaking into a car in the area of 285 Columbus Ave. On arrival, officers located a motor vehicle with damage to a passenger side window. Specifically, the window appeared to have been smashed. While en route to the call, responding officers observed an individual walking away from the scene. Upon seeing the officers, the individual quickly turned away and changed direction. As a result of the individual’s stealthy movements, officers approached the individual. When officers got closer, they were able to observe small chards of glass in and around his neck and shoulders. When asked to explain why he was in the area, the suspect was unable to provide a coherent explanation.

When officers spoke to witnesses, witnesses stated that they had observed the suspect leaning inside the broken window.

Officers arrested Brian Dias, 36, of Boston and charged him with Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle (Night time), Receiving Stolen Goods and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
