Search Warrant Results in Recovery of Gun and Drugs

Yesterday, Monday, March 22, 2010, around 4:00PM, officers from the C-11 (Dorchester) District Drug Unit accompanied by other district officers executed a search warrant at 15 Topliff Street #3. The warrant was issued by Dorchester District pursuant to an investigation that had taken place for some time into the above location.

Officers established surveillance at this location for some time prior to executing the warrant, and at approximately 4PM officers approached the address to execute the warrant. As officers approached the address, they observed a female on the second floor porch at the target address who immediately ran inside upon observing officers.  Officers, believing that the female may be alerting others in the apartment to destroy evidence of contraband, quickly entered the building and breached the apartment door after announcing their office and purpose.

Officers entered the apartment and made their way to a bedroom where they observed a male suspect, the target of the investigation crouched at the window throwing an item out of the window. Unbeknownst to the suspect, an officer had been tactically placed outside at the rear of the building who observed a firearm being thrown out of the window and crash on the back porch of an adjoining building. The magazine dislodged from the firearm as it crashed to the ground and the inserted bullets scattered. Officers recovered the firearm, a semi-automatic firearm and the numerous bullets. Search of the suspect’s apartment revealed the suspect to be in possession of marijuana in excess of the non criminal allowed amount, forty-nine rounds of ammunition, a plastic bag of crack cocaine, a digital scale, several cell phones, and a sum of cash.

The suspect, Gregory Niles, Jr., 39, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a High Capacity Feeding Device, Possession of Class B, Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute within 1,000’ of a School Zone, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute within 1,000’ a School Zone and Second Subsequent Drug Offense.
