West Virginia Man Arrested For Attempting to Pick Up Young Female in SouthieOn Saturday, September 12, 2009, the Boston Police Department received a phone call from the Pennsylvania State Police stating unknown suspects may be traveling from Pennsylvania to South Boston to abduct a young girl. BPD officers assigned out of Area C-6 (South Boston) were supplied with a possible address of the potential victim.
Officers traveled to this location and spoke with a 16 year-old female and her mother. They were informed of the information that was recently obtained. The young girl admitted to meeting a twenty-year-old male from West Virginia over the internet. She informed officers that he was traveling to Boston to “take her away.” The young girl went on to state that she has been recently experiencing stress at home and wanted to get away. Officers determined that her home was safe and no action to remove her was needed. Both mother and daughter were informed of the potential dangers of meeting with an unknown person and advised if this person shows up at their home to call the police immediately.
Shortly thereafter, a nearby resident phoned the police for a distraught young girl requesting help. Officers assigned to Area C-6 (South Boston) traveled to this location and located the caller and an upset 16 year-old girl. The caller informed officers that she observed a “confused and out of it” young girl walking down her street. The caller was concerned for her well being and asked her if she was alright. The young girl replied, “I need to get away from him and go home to Pennsylvania.” Officers learned this girl traveled with the suspect from Pennsylvania to pick up the young girl from South Boston. Officers immediately broadcast a description of the suspect to other units in the area. Officers were then approached by the suspect and he stated, “That’s my car you’re looking for.” The suspect agreed to accompany officers to the station where he was interviewed. As a result of the information obtained, the suspect was placed into custody.
Officers arrested Bryan Confere, 20, of Diamond West Virginia on the charges of Reckless Endangerment of a Child and Enticing a Child.
Officers Seize Firearm & Drugs after Chase and Violent Struggle
On Sunday, September 13, 2009, at approximately 3:35am, Boston Police Officers assigned to Area B-3 (Mattapan), were traveling in the area of Talbot Avenue when they observed a black Toyota Camry pass through the intersection at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to catch up to the suspect vehicle and observed it to make several other motor vehicle violations while doing so. Officers activated their emergency lights and siren in order to stop the offending vehicle. The vehicle refused to stop and continued on at a high rate of speed. Officers continued to follow the suspect vehicle for several minutes until it crashed in the area of Browning Avenue. The suspect lost control of the vehicle and struck the curb. The operator immediately exited the disabled motor vehicle and fled on foot. Officers gave chase and observed the black male to be carrying a firearm in his hand. Officers shouted several verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon to which he refused. Additional units arrived in the area to assist in apprehending the fleeing suspect.
Officers caught up to the suspect and a violent struggle ensued. At this time, the suspect dropped the firearm and was placed into custody. A search of the suspect’s vehicle produced a number of individually packaged bags of crack cocaine and marijuana.
Officers arrested Anthony Brown, 47, of Dorchester on the charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (subsequent offense), Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm (subsequent offense), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition (subsequent offense), Armed Career Criminal, Possession of a Class B Substance (crack cocaine) with Intent to Distribute (subsequent offense), Possession of a Class B Substance within a School Zone, Possession of a Class D Substance (marijuana) with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Class D Substance with Intent to Distribute within a School Zone, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle (subsequent offense), Failure to Submit, Resisting Arrest and Assault & Battery on a Police Officer.
