BOSTON POLICE APPEAL TO THE COMMUNITY FOR INFORMATIONOn July 27, 2009 at approximately 8:30pm, officers were called to 32 Whitman Street in Dorchester (District B-3) for a report of a person shot. There officers located a 12 year old female child suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. She was sitting inside her home when a stray bullet pierced the wall and she was struck. The victim was rushed to Boston Medical Center and was treated for a non-life threatening injury.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis stated, “I am outraged by the cowardice demonstrated by the violent individuals responsible for this senseless act. Their total disregard for human life resulted in a tragic injury to a child. As a community, we must have no tolerance for this. We must work together to hold these suspects accountable and remove them from our community.”
Simultaneously officers responded to Shotspotter activation in the area of Edson Street. Community members from that area informed officers that they witnessed a group of males run from the rear parking lot of Dorchester High School. Community members further stated that these males entered a late model brown Cadillac and fled on Edson Street toward Norfolk Street.
The location of Edson Street and Whitman Street are in close proximity to each other and are both connected to the rear parking lot of Dorchester High School.
Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit responded to the area to gather additional information and process the scene. Several vehicles and residences were also damaged due to ballistics.
The Boston Police Department urges community members to come forward with any information related to this incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Area B-3 detectives at (617) 343-4712.
