Right Place…Right TimeOn Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at approximately 8:34pm, Officers assigned to Area A-1 (Downtown), were in the area of Summer Street when they were approached by a concerned citizen who informed them that a man was just robbed at the ATM located at 40 Summer Street. He went on to state that the victim was chasing the suspect down Arch Street towards Franklin Street.
Officers immediately called for additional units to assist and a search of the area was conducted. In short time, Officers located both individuals in the area of 100 Arch Street. The victim, a Sixty-Five-year-old (65) male, informed officers that he withdrew an amount of currency from the ATM when an unknown male approached him and took the money from his hand and fled. The victim then gave chase and followed the suspect into a nearby store. The victim attempted to keep the suspect within the store by holding the door. The suspect was able to overpower the victim and pushed by him and continued to run away. The victim, once again gave chase.
The suspect became very aggressive and combative towards officers as they attempted to place him into custody.
Officers arrested Pepi Fredericks, 37, of Boston on the charges of Unarmed Robbery.
Officers Seize Firearm From Suspect On Bicycle
On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at approximately 3:18am, Officers assigned to Area B-2 (Roxbury), were traveling on Dudley Street when they observed three males riding bicycles in the general area. One of the bicyclists crossed the street directly in the path of the cruiser, causing the officers to come to an abrupt stop. The officers observed the bikes did not have proper lights & reflectors as mandated by Boston City Ordinance. The officers attempted to catch up to the three individuals due to the violations. It was the opinion of the officers that the suspects were intentionally trying to elude them.
Officers observed the group in the area of St. James and they began to ride faster. Officers caught up to the group in front of 3 Alpine Street and exited their cruiser to speak with them. One of the suspects dropped his bike and ran down an alley and jumped a fence. Being familiar with the area, an officer circled around in anticipation to where the suspect was believed to come out. The officer located the hooded sweatshirt the suspect was wearing as well as a discarded loaded firearm. Nearby, the suspect was located hiding behind a fence. The firearm was discovered to be .45 caliber, semi-automatic, loaded with seven rounds.
Officers arrested Darell Rose, 20, of Boston on the charges Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Trespassing.
