BOSTON, Oct. 7, 2008—Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis and Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley today announced the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Dwayne Graham on an MBTA bus last spring.A warrant charging JONATHAN SANDERS, 19 (D.O.B. 7/8/89), of Dorchester with the crime of murder was lodged late yesterday at the Nashua Street Jail, where Sanders is in custody on an unrelated probation violation.
“Monday’s arrest demonstrates that police and prosecutors, working hand in hand, will not relent in their efforts to identify and apprehend anyone who uses deadly violence on our streets,” Conley said. “Though more than a year has passed, we never abandoned our shared efforts to find justice for Dwayne Graham and his loved ones.”
Police Commissioner Ed Davis stated, “I would like to commend the relentless and exhaustive effort that went into identifying the perpetrator responsible for the death of Dwayne Graham. Today’s announcement is a testament to the fact the investigators and prosecutors will not rest until justice is secured for homicide victims and their surviving loved ones.”
Conley and Davis also expressed their appreciation to MBTA Transit Police detectives, who responded to the initial scene and later provided information and intelligence to homicide investigators.
Sanders’ arrest comes amid an ongoing investigation on the streets of Boston and behind the closed doors of the Suffolk County Grand Jury. An arraignment in Dorchester District Court has been tentatively scheduled for Thursday.
Boston Police responded to the area of Washington Street and Columbia Road shortly before 4:00 p.m. March 30, 2007, after a call for a person shot onboard a #23 MBTA bus.
