BOSTON POLICE RESPOND TO SHOTS FIRED CALL

SUSPECT VEHICLE STRIKES TREE ON DORCHESTER AVENUEOn September 26, 2008 at about 2:37am, officers responded to a radio call for shots fired at 7 Levant Street in Dorchester, where a caller states she saw two cars drive away from a shooting – a grey Toyota 4 Runner and a black Honda.
Prior to arrival another officer located ballistics evidence at 6 Levant Street, Dorchester. Meanwhile, a second call came in for shots fired on Bullard Street and Dorchester Ave. Officers went to investigate that call, which is in the immediate area of the Levant Street incident. A dispatcher stated that the suspect vehicle went, \”up Bullard Street toward Washington Street\”. A short time later, officers broadcast that they observed a black Honda operating at a high rate of speed without a headlight. Officers soon lost site of that vehicle driving in the direction of Geneva Ave. toward Columbia Road.
Upon receiving this information, an officer headed down Olney Street toward Columbia Road when the officer encountered the broadcast vehicle coming directly towards him on Olney Street at a high rate of speed without his headlights on. The officer swerved out of his way. The suspect vehicle then made a right turn on to Blackville Street, then a left turn on to Bowdoin Street. The officer followed the vehicle while broadcasting suspect\’s direction of flight. The officer observed numerous motor vehicle violations as he continued to follow the vehicle at a distance and a high rate of speed. The vehicle went down towards Bowdoin Street and made a right turn on Hancock Street. The officer lost site of the vehicle at Hancock Street and Dorchester Avenue. The officer broadcast that he has lost vehicle, but it maybe heading towards Freeport Street or Dorchester Avenue. Soon after, an officer observed the suspect vehicle coming towards him at a high rate of speed, fish tale upon noticing the marked police vehicle and collide into a tree located at 1453 Dorchester Ave. The officer notified area dispatcher his observation and requested EMS. Suspect was ejected from the motor vehicle. An officer attended to the suspect while awaiting EMS arrival.
The suspect was transported to Boston Medical Center Emergency and is listed in stable condition. The suspect will be charged with various traffic violations and also refusal to submit. The investigation into the original shots fired incident remains ongoing.
