WHAT’S YOUR SIGN? IN THE CASE OF TWO SUSPECTS IN BRIGHTON .. IT SHOULD’VE BEEN STOP!!! At about 2:20am, on Thursday, September 18, 2008, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) responded to a radio call for individuals stealing street signs in the area of Strathmore and Lothian Roads. On arrival, officers observed two individuals standing at the corner of Strathmore Street and Lothian Road. Officers further observed that both of the suspects were holding street signs. Specifically, suspect #1 (Harris) was holding a yellow warning sign while suspect #2 (Nasso) was holding a red stop sign. Upon seeing the arrival of the officers, both suspects quickly dropped their signs. Officers further observed suspect #1 place a wrench into his left front pocket. Upon seeing the wrench in the suspect’s pocket, officers instructed the suspect to remove the wrench and drop it to the ground.
However, instead of following the officer’s instructions, the suspect stated, \”All of the lawyers I\’ve talked to told me I don\’t have to give you that (the wrench) and I don\’t have to give you my wallet or any thing else.\” Officers arrested David Harris, 21, of Brighton and charged him with Larceny (Over $250.00) and Possession of Burglarious Tools. A search of the suspect enabled officers to recover several nuts and bolts that appeared to have been used to affix the signs.
Officers also arrested Frank Nasso, 21, of Brighton and charged him with Larceny (Over $250.00).
Officers were able to locate the areas from where the signs were stolen. Given their proximity to an elementary school, officers, using the wrench, nuts and bolts taken from the suspect, were able to re-attach one of the signs. A call was made to the Transportation Department to ensure the replacement of the 2nd sign.
