On Friday, September 5, 2008, Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced the apprehension of suspect, Richard Parris, 39, of Roxbury, in the stabbing death of Sheldon Andrews.A warrant for Parris’ arrest was issued on Thursday, September 4, 2008. Investigators soon learned that Parris was attempting to leave the country and obtained information that he had boarded a flight to Barbados. Police and prosecutors coordinated with U.S. Marshals, who with local authorities apprehended Parris as he deplaned an Air Jamaica flight (from Atlanta) at Kingston Jamaica Airport. Parris is expected to be brought before a court in that country and held until his rendition to face charges in the Dorchester Municipal Court.
Said Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis, “I’d like to recognize and commend the collaborative work by both Boston Police Homicide detectives and Suffolk County prosecutors in their efforts to track down and bring to justice the man believed to be responsible for the death of Sheldon Andrews. I hope this arrest provides in some small measure a level of relief and comfort to his family and friends.”
District Attorney Daniel Conley stated, “Let this be a message to anyone who would use deadly violence on our streets. We will spare no effort to identify you and we will travel any distance to catch you. The Suffolk prosecutors and Boston Police detectives who worked this case did so around the clock to achieve this goal, and they will continue those efforts until we bring justice to Mr. Andrews’ family.”
