MEDIA ADVISORY/PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

TEXTING FOR PEACEBoston Students Honored for their Winning ‘Text A Tip’ Poster Creations

WHAT: The City of Boston will honor twenty Boston students for their participation in the Annual National Night Out Poster Contest. The contest’s theme was \”Text for Peace.\”
In 2007, the Boston Police Department introduced the ability to allow anyone to send in 100% anonymous tip to police by texting the word \”TIP\” to CRIME (27463). This year’s poster contest required students to create a poster based on that theme. The poster theme is in keeping with the mission of the Neighborhood Crime Watch Unit to deter crime and reduce fear. The \”Text for Peace\” theme aims to remind Boston youth of an anonymous option to prevent and report violence and crime.
WHO: Boston Police Command Staff; Poster Contest Winners and their family and friends
WHEN: Friday, July 25, 2008, from 12 noon to 2:00 PM (Speaking/Photo Op from 12:30 to 1:00 PM)
