DAILY INCIDENTS FOR SATURDAY, JULY 12, 2008

CRUISER INVOLVED ACCIDENT ON SOLDIERS FIELD ROADAt about 1:00am, on Saturday, July 12, 2008, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) were traveling along Soldiers Field Road when an oncoming car veered into their lane, forcing the officers to take evasive action. In doing so, officers lost control of the cruiser, rear-ended a car in front of them, before coming to a stop in the middle of the roadway. Both officers were transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The operator and occupants of the other motor vehicle involved in the accident, the one struck by the officer’s cruiser, refused medical treatment.
POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENT IN MATTAPAN
At about 3:38am, on Saturday, July 12, 2008, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) responded to the Carney Hospital for the report of a walk-in patient suffering from a gunshot wound. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was shot while he was walking in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Morton Street. The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
SPILLING BEER AT FENWAY LANDS TWO IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 10:16pm, on Friday, July 11, 2008, officers performing a paid detail at Fenway Park during the Red Sox game responded to a disturbance in the area of section 31 of the park. Upon responding to the area, officers observed several people being separated by Fenway Park security. Officers spoke to witnesses who stated that they observed two fans throwing beer at another group of fans. Witnesses further stated that the fans responsible for throwing the beer, then, attempted to escape capture by changing their shirts in hopes of blending into the crowd. That plan, however, proved unsuccessful when numerous fans positively identified and pointed out the suspects.
Officers arrested Derek Crandell, 23, of Waltham and Paul Caira, 23, of Waltham and charged both with Being Disorderly.
