Car Theft Suspect Arrested After Committing Traffic ViolationAround 12:04am Saturday, May 19, 2007, officers from District 11 (Dorchester) observed a motor vehicle perform a u-turn at Dorchester Ave. and east Cottage St. causing traffic to stop.
A traffic stop was conducted at 922 Dorchester Ave. and the operator’s license and registration requested of him. The operator stated to officers that he had no identification on him. Further investigation by officers revealed that the car had been reported stolen on 4/12/07 in Maine. The operator, Mark Curran, 34, of Boston was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Receiving Stolen Property for some stolen checks and a number of other stolen items located in the back seat of the car. After the suspect was arrested, officers subsequently discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for Violation of Federal Probation.
Two Suspects Arrested with Drugs After Being Stopped for Speeding
At approximately 1:50am yesterday, officers from District 2 (Roxbury) arrested suspects, Lashon Washington, 35, of Dorchester and Samuel Turay, 26, of Dorchester and charged them with Possession of Class D, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute within 1,000” of a School Zone.
Offices on patrol in the area of Columbia Rd. and Hancock St. were drawn to the suspects’ motor vehicle when it was observed traveling a high rate of speed, failing to stay within marked lanes, and failing to signal prior to changing lanes. A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Columbia Rd. and Quincy St. where officers approached the suspects’ car. On approaching the motor vehicle, officers immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana despite the fact the suspects’ motor vehicle had over 30 tree air fresheners.
Further investigation by officers resulted in a large bag of marijuana being located in the glove compartment. A canine officers and his dog responded after the initial search and assisted in locating three additional bags of marijuana that were secreted in the rear ceiling area of the car. After the suspects were arrested, officers seized over $500 in cash from the suspects. Suspect, Washington was also charged with a number of motor vehicle violations.
Scalper Arrested at Newbury Street and Brookline Avenue
Around 12:40pm yesterday, May 19, 2007, officers from District 4 (South End) arrested suspect, Peter J. Marnio, 51, of Lynnfield and charged him Ticket Scalping, Peddling Without a License, and Occupying a Street for Resale of Tickets.
The suspect came to the attention of plain-clothes officers in the area when they heard him offering to sell tickets to the baseball game. Further investigation revealed that the tickets were being sold in excess of their $85.00 face value and being offered for resale at a price of $100.00.
C-6 (South Boston) Drug Unit Nabs Three Suspects in McCormack Housing Development
Around 5:00pm today, May 19, 2007, officers from District C-6 drug unit making observations in the Mary Ellen McCormack Housing development became aware of three individuals selling heroin in the development.
Officers conducted surveillance and observed an individual enter and shortly afterwards exit a building in the development. Officers focused their attention and this building and shortly thereafter observed three individuals matching the suspects’ description exit the building. Officers successfully stopped these three individuals at Old Colony and Preble Street. There, officers recovered more than eleven bags of heroin from suspect, Gamalier R. Serrano, 27, of South Boston and charged him with Possession of Class A, Possession of Class A with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Class A with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone. Officers also arrested Beverly Rijos, 22, and Jaime Melia, 28, both of South Boston and charged them with Knowingly Being Present Where Heroin is Kept. Officers seized the drugs and some money from the suspects.
Three Suspects Arrested for Shooting at Elm Hill Ave and Sonoma Street
About 5:36pm yesterday, Saturday, May 19, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the intersection of Elm Hill Ave. and Sonoma St. for a person shot.
On arrival, officers located a 20-year-old black male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the arm and leg. The victim was transported to Boston Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries by ambulance.
Conversation with witnesses and revealed that three described males had been observed entering a motor vehicle almost immediately after the gunshots were heard. Security officers in the area while attempting to make their way to the scene of the shooting were almost struck by the fleeing vehicle of the suspects. A description of the fleeing motor vehicle was broadcast along with the registration of the car.
Some time after the broadcast of the described suspect motor vehicle, officers located it in the area of 560 Shawmut Ave. in the South End. Surveillance was established on the vehicle and after some time three individuals were observed entering the suspect motor vehicle. Officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop after the three individuals entered the car but the car refused to stop until Lenox St. where the operator abandoned the car and fled on foot leaving two passengers in the car. Officers secured the individuals in the car while others pursued the operator. After a lengthy foot chase, officers were able to locate the operator of the car in a dumpster. All three individuals were detained and returned to the district. There, investigation and evidence revealed that the three in custody were the same ones responsible for the shooting.
Officers then arrested and charged William Pantoja, 20, of Dorchester, Nathanael Villalongo, 23, of Cumberland, RI, and Bolivar Marin-Torres, of Revere with Assault with Intent to Murder. Suspect Pantoja was further charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon for trying to run over the security officers while fleeing from the scene and a host of other motor vehicle infractions.
