Vigilant Officers Effect Arrest Based on Anonymous TipAt approximately 3:01am yesterday, Friday, May 19, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the area of 62 Holworthy St. in Dorchester for a report of two suspicious individuals standing near the corner.
While in the area investigating this call, officers observed two individuals dressed in all black on Harrishof St., one street away from the original call. These two individuals clothing was consistent with the description of the two suspicious individuals. Officers observed these two individuals carrying a large canvass bag, and a large cardboard box.
The two individuals were stopped and determined to be in possession of a number of items commonly stolen from cars, including a screwdriver, a tool often used as a burglarious tool. Officers continued their investigation, and determined that one of the suspects had a replica firearm. Officers now believing, and having probable cause to believe that the suspects had engaged in some illegal activity further investigated the circumstances surrounding the items in their possession. Officers spoke to the original caller and responded to the area where the suspect had initially been observed. There, officers located a motor vehicle with several windows broken and its contents disturbed. Among the items still remaining in the car were items consistent with the ones in the suspects’ possession.
The suspects, Jahar A. Pinkett, 23, of Roxbury and Andrew Robinson, 37, of Dorchester were both arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Burglarious Tools.
Officers were also able to find the owner of the car who identified the items that the suspects had as having been in his car. In addition, during the booking process officers located a piece of broken automotive glass from one of the suspect’s pockets.
Un-Neighborly Behavior Lands Suspect Behind Bars
About 11:58am yesterday, May 18, 2007, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon at 1825 Washington St. in the South End.
On arrival, officers met and spoke to the victim who reported that he was just assaulted at knifepoint by his neighbor. The victim stated that the incident started when he walked out of his back door and noticed his neighbor, who lives several down from him, sitting on his stairs along with five friends. The victim stated that he asked his neighbor to move from his stairs at which point his neighbor became agitated, started yelling at him and assaulted him by grabbing. The victim defended himself by pushing his neighbor away and told his neighbor to simply leave. The neighbor left but not before telling the victim that he would be back. According to the victim, the suspect later came back armed with a 10” blade knife and threatened to kill the victim while pointing the knife at the victim.
The suspect, a 14-year-old from Roxbury was arrested and charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.
Car Theft Suspect Arrested in the Act
Yesterday, Friday, May 19, 2007 around 3:14pm, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a larceny in progress at Smile Pre-School/185 Dudley St. in Roxbury.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who reported that he had put his keys down while at work, and a while later was notified by his son, who was looking out of the window, that there was someone in his car. The victim stated that he went outside and observed that the suspect was seated in the driver’s seat with keys in the ignition. The victim then detained the suspect until officers arrived on scene.
The suspect, a 16-year-old suspect from Dorchester was arrested and charged him with Attempted Auto Theft. It was later determined that the suspect had been inside the school earlier that day and had taken the victim’s keys with the intention of stealing the victim’s car.
Officers’ Training Leads to Recovery of Firearm
About 9:17pm last night, May 18, 2007, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested suspect, Charles Bell, 19, of Roxbury and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with Altered serial Numbers and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Bird St. and Virginia St. when they first observed the suspect standing in front of 35 Bird St. As officers approached the suspect, he began to look the other way, pulled his hood back and began to slightly blade his body way from officers. Officers then observed that the suspect’s outer right pocket to be bulging and weighted and noticed that the suspect was trying to cover the bulge with his fingers spread out. Officers, having observed these characteristics, believed that the suspect had the characteristics of an armed gunmen based on their training and experience.
Officers approached the suspect and he initiated conversation with them in an attempt to distract officers’ attention. Officers then exited their vehicle and confirmed that the suspect was indeed in possession of a loaded firearm, and placed him under arrest.
