Daily Incidents For May 3, 2007

BPD Officer and His Canine Partner (Fritz) Apprehends Three JuvenilesYesterday around 2:17pm, a K-9 unit was on patrol in the area of Washington and Harvard Streets. While waiting at a red light the officer observed a light skinned male running down Bowdoin Street towards Geneva Avenue. The officer then observed five males chasing the victim. One of the suspects had an object in his right hand, which appeared to be a firearm. The officer pulled his cruiser in between the path of the victim and suspects. The officer immediately exited his cruiser and ordered the suspects to stop. Upon seeing the officer one of the suspects placed the object in his pants pocket and fled from the officer.
Officers fearing for the safety of the victim and himself ordered the suspect to stop twice or before deploy his canine Fritz. The suspect continued to run and canine Fritz was deployed. As the suspect lunged to the ground, Fritz bit the suspect causing a small laceration. Two 16-year-old juvenile males from Dorchester and Randolph and a 15-year-old juvenile male from Dorchester were arrested and charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly. One of the 16-year-old will be charged with Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon. Officers did recover a knife from one of the suspects.
Person Shot at 143 Arlington Street
Last night around 7:21pm, officers from District 18 (Hyde Park) responded to Boston Medical Center on a report of a gunshot victim. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated he was standing on Arlington Street waiting to be picked up by someone. The victim stated he noticed a group of males hanging at the corner of Arlington and Hyde Park Avenue. The victim stated he heard a shot and began to run. The victim went on to state that the group of males ran up Hyde Park Avenue towards West Street. The victim stated he did not see where the shot came from. Once the victim realized he was shot he ran to the intersection for help. An unknown male picked him up and drove him to Boston Medical Center. The victim was treated for a non-life threatening injury to the hand.
Two Juveniles Arrested in Brighton
On May 2, 2007 at 2:30pm, officer from District 14 responded to a radio call to investigate the premise at 60 Glenmont Road (the Edison School). On arrival, school personnel informed officers that students reported seeing a student brandish a firearm on a school bus on the way home on Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Both students were out of school on Wednesday.
Today at 7:25am, officers from District 14 responded to the Edison Middle School for a student with a gun. On arrival, officers were directed to the basement of the school where the students were located. As officers entered the room they observed the victim, engaged with a loud and belligerent student. Officers were also informed that both suspects were smoking on the school bus this morning. Both of the suspects were advised that they were going to be searched. One of the suspects’s slapped the school police officer’s hands away several times and then pushed the officer. A 14-year-old, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Possession of Class D. Also arrested was a 15-year-old from Dorchester and charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, and Resisting Arrest. He also had several outstanding warrants for Resisting Arrest, Disturbing a Public Assembly and Assault and Battery of a Police Officer. Officers did recover marijuana from one of the suspects. No firearm was recovered.
