STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE SUSPECT RESISTS ARRESTAt approximately 11:15 pm on Monday, March 26, 2007, District B-2 (Roxbury) officers patrolling in the area of Dale St. and Wakullah St. observed a stolen motor vehicle. After temporarily losing sight of the car, officers broadcasted a vehicle description.
After a short search, the stolen car was observed at the intersection of Charlame St. and Laurel St. Additional units responded to the area. Officers approached the stolen vehicle and ordered the suspect to exit. At that time, the suspect abruptly accelerated, causing an officer to fall backward.
The suspect vehicle then struck a police cruiser directly in front of him, reversed, and slammed into the cruiser once more, which caused extensive damage to the stolen vehicle. He then sped away from the scene and turned right onto Warren St. Several units gave pursuit, and located the car nearby facing the wrong way on a one-way street.
The suspect then hit a light pole and attempted to exit the vehicle. As officers approached, the suspect exited from the passenger door. Upon exiting the vehicle, the suspect ignored orders by officers to get on the ground. As he attempted to flee, an officer was able to apprehend him. The suspect then turned and assaulted the officer in the shoulder with a closed fist.
The suspect broke free and fled through Kensington Park, toward Warren St. Officers located the suspect in an alley nearby, and repeatedly ordered him to get on the ground. Officers continued to give the order, and the suspect attempted to run past them, pushing officers as he did so. Officers were able to restrain the suspect after he refused to put his hands behind his back.
The suspect, Orlando Kavanaugh, 23, of Boston, was arrested and is being charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle, Driving to Endanger, Leaving the Scene Property Damage, and Leaving the Scene Personal Injury.
SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR TRESPASSING
At approximately 10:45 pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, District D-14 (Brighton) received information from vigilant officers that they had observed an individual, Dane Brune AKA “The Mole”, 61, of Boston, walking on Harvard Ave., Glenville Ave., and Commonwealth Ave. and peering into residential apartments and commercial businesses. Plain-clothes officers observed the individual looking into several residential apartments and businesses, walking back and forth several times, and then entering a business on Harvard Ave.
The suspect then exited the business and continued walking on Harvard Ave., crossing Commonwealth Ave. He crossed Brainerd Rd., where he continued peering into residential apartments. After several more minutes of walking around, including a call made from a payphone, Mr. Brune took a right into an alley behind Harvard Ave, which is clearly posted with “No Trespassing” and “Private Property” signs.
The suspect was then observed looking into back windows of apartments and loitering without any purpose. Officers approached him and asked him what he was doing in an alley marked as “Private Property”, with a “No Trespassing” sign. Mr. Brune stated that he was looking for “old acquaintances”. He was placed under arrest, transported to District D-14, and charged with Trespassing. Detectives will investigate the possibility of this suspect’s connection to other Breaking and Entering incidents in the area.
