Death Investigation at 36 South Crescent Circuit in Brighton

On March 16, 2007 at 5:55pm, officers from District D-14 (Brighton) were sent to a residence at 36 South Crescent Circuit after receiving reports of a “woman out of control”. This address is a group home for mentally challenged individuals. When police arrived, health care providers informed officers that a female patient had become violent. Health care providers had unsuccessfully attempted to restrain the patient. Officers attempted to calm the patient and requested that EMS respond to the scene.The patient became increasingly hostile requiring police to provide restraint. While doing so, officers noticed that the patient had labored breathing and began to exhibit signs of a heart attack. Officers then contacted Boston Police operations and requested that dispatch hasten EMS. The patient was rushed to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and was later pronounced.
The Boston Police Homicide Unit is investigating this incident. Detectives are awaiting information from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine cause of death. In addition, Boston Police Internal Affairs Unit is also investigating this incident, which is standard procedure when incidents such as this occur.
