Officers assigned to District 2 responded to a radio call for a person breaking into the Mission Catholic Church at 1545 Tremont Street in Roxbury this morning at 12:13am. On arrival the officers observed a white male jumping over the rod iron fence that surrounds the church with a witness pursuing him. The officer stopped the suspect and returned him to the front steps of the church. Located on the front steps of the Church was a second witness with two additional suspects and a drill.Further investigation revealed that a resident of the Rectory heard noises coming from down stairs in the Rectory and when he went to investigate, he observed a group of males and females in front of the church. The witness then stated that he heard female voices coming from the bottom of the stairs of the Church. When he responded to that location, he observed two females crouching by a grated window of the Church with a drill in their hand. When the witness asked the females if they were early for Church Services, they dropped the drill and fled in an unknown direction.
After the two females fled, the witness observed three individuals on Church property. After being questioned by him what they were doing on church property, they stated they were looking for their friends drill. Additional units responded and police discovered a gate open that is usually closed and locked as well as a lock on a rear door drilled out. Police arrested Zachery Duensing, 20, of Hendersonville, TN; Robert Ransom, 20, of Stafford, Ct; Jamie Stawecki, 20, Stafford, Ct and charged them all with Attempted B&E at night, Trespassing, and Possession of Burglarious Tools. All three suspects were transported to District 2 where they were booked.
At about 4:20 this morning, the arresting officers were notified that there were two females at District 2 attempting to bail out the above suspects. The officer observed the two females and determined that they matched the description of the two that fled from the church earlier in the morning. The officer requested the witness to respond to District 2 who positively identified both females. Police arrested Melynda Durrell, 21, and Alyse Luurtsema, 19, both of Stafford, Ct. Both were charged with Attempted B&E at night, Trespassing, and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
All five suspects will be arraigned tomorrow morning in the Roxbury District Court.
