Suspect Arrested Outside Downtown Crossing Bank

Boston Police were alerted tonight at about 8:17pm that a robbery was occurring outside the Sovereign Bank at 30 Winter Street in the Downtown Crossing area. The 51-year-old victim reports that while making a deposit at the Sovereign Bank night deposit box a suspect approached him from behind and grabbed a bag of money the victim was placing into the open deposit box. The victim struggled with the suspect and was able to recover the money from the suspect. When the victim resisted the suspect’s commands to give him the money, the suspect, who was armed with a screwdriver, stabbed the victim above the right eyebrow. A witness walking in the area observed the victim struggling with the suspect and assisted the victim in securing the suspect on the ground and call for police.Officers from District 1 arrived to the scene and arrested the suspect who was still being restrained by the victim and witness. Felix Pierre, 27, of Somerville was arrested and will be arraigned tomorrow morning at the Boston Municipal Court where he will be charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Armed Robbery, Intent to Rob While Armed, Dangerous Weapons Unlawfully Carried, Mayhem, and three outstanding warrants. The screwdriver used in the crime was recovered at the scene, positively identified by the victim and seized by investigators. The bag of undisclosed U.S. Currency was also returned to the victim.
The victim was transported to the Massachusetts General Hospital by Boston EMS where he is currently being treated for his non-life threatening injuries.
