Anonymous Tip Leads to Significant Drug Seizure

At about 11:30am this morning, members of the Citywide Drug Control Unit along with MBTA Transit Police officers responded to the South Station Bus Terminal after receiving an anonymous tip. Officers were given a name and a detailed description of an individual traveling to Boston by bus from Providence R.I. This individual was to be carrying cocaine and marijuana to be sold in Boston. Officers went to the bus platform and set up surveillance of incoming bus passengers. An individual matching the detailed description given to police, was observed getting off a Bonanza bus that had jus arrived from Providence. An initial investigation revealed the individual’s name to be the same as the one given to police by the tipster and he was found to be in possession of three plastic bags of what was believed to be marijuana concealed in his waistband. Officers also recovered approximately 100 grams of a substance believed to be crack cocaine from a bag in the suspect’s possession. (Anything over 14 grams is Trafficking Class B). Subsequent to the discovery of the drugs, officers arrested 26-year-old Jamar Gardner of New York and charged him with Trafficking Class B and Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute. He will be arraigned on Tuesday in Boston Municipal Court.
