State Police Airwing Foils Suspects’ Getaway Ride on Stolen Mini-bike

Below is a News Release from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of State Police Public Affairs Unit.On April 9, 2006 at about 1:15 p.m., State Police from the Framingham Barracks were notified of a crash that occurred on Route 95 North near Route 109 in Dedham. The crash involved a Ford Explorer that was carjacked in Boston on April 1, 2006. Subsequent investigation by the State Police along with the assistance of the Boston Police Department, the Dedham Police Department and the Westwood Police Department led to the arrest of three individuals for possession of a stolen motor vehicle with further charges still being investigated.
The preliminary investigation indicates the following: The Ford Explorer was traveling north on Route 95 near Route 109 in Dedham when it struck another vehicle, lost control and struck the guardrail. The Ford then exited Route 95 North onto Route 109 East. The vehicle that was struck by the Ford became disabled and was not able to follow the Ford when it left the scene of the crash. However, a witness to the initial crash began following the Ford onto Route 109 East. The Ford then slid off the roadway and became disabled. At that point, two male occupants in the Ford exited the Ford and began approaching the witness’s vehicle. The witness backed up and escaped without further incident.
The two males then fled into the woods along with a female that had been inside the stolen Ford Explorer as State Police cruisers approached the scene. The female was located a few moments later and placed under arrest for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
The responding troopers then set up a perimeter and began searching for the two male suspects. Members of the State Police Airwing Section, the State Police Canine Section, the Dedham Police Department and the Westwood Police Department responded to the scene to assist with the search.
About forty-five minutes later someone observed two males fitting the suspects’ descriptions riding down Route 109 on a stolen mini-bike. Members of the State Police Airwing Section subsequently located the mini-bike and began tracking the suspects from the air. They followed the suspects to a neighborhood in Roslindale at which time the suspects disposed of the mini-bike and fled on foot into a residence located at 29 Conway Street in Roslindale. At that point, members of the State Police and the Boston Police Department went to the residence and arrested the two male suspects that had been followed from the air by members of the State Police Airwing Section.
The two male suspects were transported from Conway Street to Faulkner Hospital in Boston for pre-existing minor injuries that they sustained prior to their arrests.
The three individuals arrested were Jonathan P. Landry, age 29, Wayne A. Barber, age 43 and Charity Cronin, age 30. Their current addresses are still being investigated. All three were booked at the State Police Barracks in Framingham and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
The State Police Department, the Boston Police Department and the Dedham Police Department are still conducting further investigations into this incident, the original carjacking on April 1, 2006 and the stolen mini-bike.
