Guns, Drugs Seized in Dorchester Apartment

At 6:15am this morning members of the District 2 Drug Control Unit went to 21 Dacia Street in Dorchester armed with a search warrant. With the assistance of the Boston Police Entry Team, officers made a forced entry into apartment 2. The target of the investigation, Gregory Niles, 35, was found sleeping in a bedroom and a female Veda Byrd, 31 was located sleeping in a second bedroom. Both individuals were secured and informed of the search warrant. Officers proceeded to search the apartment and recovered 48 various sized bags of marijuana, one large bag of crack cocaine weighing approximately 45 grams, a .45 caliber handgun with laser, a 9mm handgun, 65 rounds of assorted ammunition, a bullet proof vest and other items consistent with the packaging and sale of drugs. Officers also seized approximately $1,700.00 is cash.Both Niles and Byrd were arrested. Niles charged with Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute/School Zone and an outstanding warrant issued in Dedham Court. Byrd is charged with Trafficking Cocaine over 28 grams, Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute, two counts of Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Possession of Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession of Body Armor During the Commission of a Felony. Arraignment will be in the Roxbury Division of Boston Municipal Court on Wednesday morning.
