Victim Pursues Unarmed Robbery SuspectShortly before midnight yesterday, officers from District 3 responded to a radio call for a larceny in progress at Morton and Norfolk Streets. While the officers were responding to the call, the victim was speaking on a friend’s cell phone to a dispatcher at Boston 9-1-1. The victim reported that she was following the suspect on Morton Street toward Blue Hill Avenue. As the officers drove on Morton Street, the victim pointed the suspect to the officers. The officers stopped Freddie Williams, 47, of Boston. The victim stated that the suspect entered a restaurant and asked the victim for money. When she told him she didn’t have any, he forcefully took her coat along with her cell phone and U.S. Currency in the pocket. The suspect fled out the door with the victim calling police on her friend’s cell phone. The suspect was arrested and the coat and phone were recovered.
Filenes’s Employees Assaulted with a Box Cutter
An officer from District 1 responded to Filenes yesterday at 1:15pm on a report on a shoplifter assaulting employees. According to witnesses, the suspect stole a blue polo ski jacket from the store. The employees recovered the stolen jacket when the suspect started waiving a box cutter and fled the scene. The employees chased the suspect and lost sight of him on Tremont Street.
Motor Vehicle Stop Leads to Fugitive Arrest
On Sunday morning at about 3:57 am, officers from District 3 conducted a motor vehicle stop after they observed a vehicle fail to stop at Normandy Street and Columbia Road. The operator of the vehicle was found to be operating after her license was suspended. The officers arrested Lelis Ortiz, 30, of Roxbury and charged her with violating the auto laws. The passenger of the vehicle, Rafael Avalo-Mejia, 31, of Roxbury was checked to see if he was licensed to drive the vehicle. The officers discovered that the passenger was wanted on a parole violation in New York. Both were transported to District 3 and will be arraigned in the Dorchester District Court on Monday morning.
Coffee Shop Robbed in Charlestown
According to witnesses at the Dunkin Donuts on Cambridge Street in Charlestown, a white male about 5’7”, 180lbs, wearing a dark blue jacket, ski mask and khaki pants robbed the shop at gun point yesterday at 1:20pm. While the suspect was fleeing from the store, the weather conditions caused him to slide and fall. The suspect eventually entered a Ford pick up truck and fled toward Everett.
Fly Away………
A Jamaica Plain resident reported that yesterday at around noon, she put her talking parrot, valued at $750 on the front porch of her house on Round Hill Street. When she went downstairs, she heard footsteps. She returned to the porch and discovered the bird was gone. The victim states that the talking parrot doesn’t fly.
Suspect Arrested in Mattapan for Disorderly Conduct
Officers from District 3 responded to an address on Hannon Street in Mattapan last night at about 8:18pm on a report of a disturbance. On arrival, a victim reported that the suspect, Juan Vasquez, 20, of Dorchester stole her $600 cell phone and charger. The suspect told police he did not steal it and then told the officers to lock him up. The suspect became irate and was eventually placed under arrest for disorderly conduct, larceny over $250, and resisting arrest.
