Roxbury Officers Recovered a Large Capacity Firearm After a Traffic Stop

On Monday, August 18, 2025, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Jamel Abreu, 18, of Roxbury, on multiple firearm related charges.

About 5:10 PM, officers were on patrol in the area of Warren Street when they observed a motor vehicle entered the intersection at Dale Street while the traffic signal was turning yellow. As the light turned red, the vehicle was now completely stopped in the middle of the intersection causing gridlock. Officers activated their cruiser’s lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop at Dale Street and Sherman Street.

Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and requested the operator’s license and registration. The front passenger was attempting to fasten his seatbelt and his information was also requested. The passenger could not supply a license, and officers could see a large bulge consistent with the handle of a firearm that was protruding from his waistband.

An exit order was made, and officers conducted a pat frisk of the front passenger. A firearm was immediately recovered from the suspect’s waistband and he was placed into handcuffs. District B-2 Detectives responded to the scene and processed the firearm which was a Geisler Semi Auto with no serial number and seventeen rounds in the magazine.

Abreu was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the following charges:

–          Carry a Firearm without a License

–          Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card

–          Carry a Loaded Firearm without a License

–          Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
