Youth Violence Strike Force Recovers Loaded Firearm and Arrests Suspect After Call for Person With A Gun

Boston Police Officers and Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) arrested Juarez Sanders Jr, 23, of Boston, and recovered a loaded firearm after investigating a fleeing suspect from a 911 call for a fight.

At about 9:54 PM, on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, Officers, and Troopers of the YVSF were patrolling the area of Harrison Ave. and Massachusetts Ave. when they heard a radio call for a suspicious person with a firearm, last seen running from a six-person fight at 16 Hammond St, while holding his waist band. A description of the suspect was broadcasted to Officers and they began canvasing the surrounding area.

Shortly after beginning their canvas, officers made observations of an individual matching the suspect’s description, who was wearing a fanny pack across his body while walking on Massachusetts Ave. As Officers approached the suspect, he noticed their police vehicles and removed his fanny pack from his body and held it in his hand.

Officers drove their vehicles next to the suspect and he began to walk backwards as officers exited their vehicles. Once Officers exited their vehicles, the suspect threw his fanny pack at their feet. Officers took custody of him and a loaded firearm was recovered inside the fanny pack following an investigation by Officers.

The firearm was determined to be a silver Derringer with a pearl handle, loaded with 1 round of .22 cal. ammunition.

Juarez Sanders Jr. was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court for the charges of Carrying a Loaded Firearm While Under the Influence of Drugs and/or Alcohol, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, and Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card.
