Officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown Boston) recovered a firearm and arrested Matiop Ayuel, 39, of Leominster, MA after a private security guard witnessed him drop a firearm on the ground.
At about 6:59 PM, on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, Officers assigned to District A-1 were responding to a radio call for a shoplifting incident in Downtown Crossing, when they were approached by a private security guard who stated that he saw a person with a gun around Chauncy St. and Summer St.
The witness informed Officers that he had witnessed a Black male, wearing a blue top, drop what he recognized to be a firearm. Officers were provided an accurate description and direction of flight of the suspect and began to search the area, eventually locating him in-front of 85 Bedford St. Officers began an investigation of the suspect and recovered a firearm located inside of his pants.
A-1 Detectives processed the recovered firearm and determined it was a black semi-automatic Walther PPS .40 Caliber firearm, loaded with 1 magazine containing 5 rounds of .40cal ammunition.
Matiop Ayuel was arrested and expected to be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License.
