At about 11:14 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, Officers assigned to District 3 (Mattapan) conducted a stop in the area of 131 Ruthven Street, which resulted in the arrest of two 16-year-old juvenile males for multiple firearm-related offenses.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Humboldt Avenue when, while passing Ruthven Street, their attention was drawn to a large group gathered at the intersection. Officers observed the group leave the intersection and immediately walk into the rear of an apartment building in close proximity. Officers continued to monitor the group and approached the rear of the building.
Officers’ attention was immediately drawn to one of the 16-year-old juvenile males, who was wearing black sweatpants and a green hooded sweatshirt. Upon observing the officers, the juvenile began to quicken his pace and walk ahead of the group, separating himself from the others.
Officers continued to monitor the juvenile male when they suddenly observed him grab the center of his chest and run at a full sprint through the parking lot and down an adjacent alley. While running, officers observed one of his hands swinging freely while the other was holding his chest. Officers then observed the juvenile male running back toward them and were able to safely detain him.
While attempting to detain the juvenile, officers observed that he was holding a firearm, which was pinned against his chest. Officers were able to safely recover the firearm. While attempting to place the juvenile male in handcuffs, he was able to break free and briefly flee from officers.
As officers attempted to regain control of the juvenile male, a second 16-year-old juvenile male began interfering with officers by blocking their pathway and pushing an officer who was attempting to regain control of the initial juvenile male. Officers were then able to safely place both juvenile males into handcuffs.
District detectives arrived on scene and began processing the firearm. The firearm was determined to be a black polymer Glock 17 9mm. The firearm was loaded with a total of ten (10) rounds of live ammunition.
The initial 16-year-old juvenile male is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on the following charges:
