About 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, officers assigned to District 2 (Roxbury) made an on-site arrest of Savon Barbosa on firearm-related charges and Jean Depina for Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.
While on patrol in the area of Dudley Street and Harlow Street, Officers observed a group of individuals wearing masks standing in a front yard at the aforementioned address. As officers passed the group, they were stopped for a brief moment by a double-parked car.
Officers continued patrolling in the area before returning to Harlow Street, where they observed the same group of individuals. As officers turned onto the street, they observed Savon Barbosa enter the double-parked car. The vehicle, being a ride-share, continued to Howard Ave and then immediately pulled to the right and honked the horn. Officers observed the operator of the ride-share step out of the vehicle and immediately flagged down the officers.
As Officers approached the vehicle, they observed Savon Barbosa bending over in the backseat of the vehicle. Barbosa then immediately opened the rear passenger door and took off running in a full sprint down Harlow Street. Officers were able to safely handcuff and detain Savon Barbosa a short distance away.
As multiple District 2 Officers began to arrive on scene, Officers returned to the rear passenger area where Savon Barbosa was previously seated. Officers observed an abnormal bump under the mat of the rear seats. Officers then checked under the mat and observed a black firearm.
Moments later, a large group formed in the area, which consisted of members from the initial group standing in the yard. As officers were attempting to de-escalate the situation, Jean Depina swatted at officers and made contact with an officer’s arm, which resulted in an additional arrest.
Detectives arrived on the scene and took custody of the firearm. The firearm was determined to be a Glock 23 .40 Cal with an obliterated serial number. The firearm was loaded with a total of fifteen (15) rounds of ammunition, including one (1) round in the chamber and fourteen (14) rounds in the magazine.
