In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Boston Police Department is highlighting some of the resources, partnerships, and specialized units in the City and our Department
Today, we recognize the BPD’s Street Outreach Unit (SOU), a specialized citywide unit formed in 2019 to support individuals impacted by mental illness, substance use disorder, and homelessness with compassion, professionalism, and care.
The officers assigned to the Street Outreach Unit receive extensive training and work closely with community partners to help connect individuals with services and support throughout Boston.
The Street Outreach Unit is one of many ways the Boston Police Department continues to support the wellbeing of those we serve. To learn more about BPD mental health initiatives, please visit police.boston.gov/mentalhealth
