Dorchester Home Invasion Suspect Arrested Following Weeks-Long Investigation

Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) placed a Quincy man under arrest on May 15, 2026, in connection with a violent home invasion that occurred in the early morning hours of April 20, 2026.

At approximately 2:49 a.m. that morning, officers responded to a radio call for an assault and battery in progress at 40 Stratton Street in Dorchester. Upon arrival, officers encountered a victim who was bleeding heavily from facial injuries. A second victim was located inside the apartment, bleeding from the head and unable to stand without assistance. Both victims were transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital for serious injuries. .

In the days that followed, detectives from District B-3 conducted an extensive follow-up investigation that included a review of surveillance footage from multiple cameras in the surrounding area. That footage, combined with additional information developed through the investigation, corroborated the suspect’s identity and tracked his movements in the immediate aftermath of the attack. A detective from District B-3 subsequently obtained an arrest warrant from Dorchester District Court. 

On the morning of May 15, 2026, officers responded to 247 Woodrow Avenue in Dorchester following a radio call for a drug investigation. As a result of that response, the suspect was located and taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital and subsequently booked at the Nashua Street Jail.

Robert Rutledge, 43, of Quincy, MA, is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:

  • Home Invasion
  • Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Person 65 or Older

He also faces outstanding warrants from Brockton District Court and Dorchester District Court.

During the course of the investigation, a second individual was also summonsed to Dorchester District Court on a separate drug-related charge.
