Youth Violence Strike Force Apprehends Wanted Fugitive, Recovers Firearm in Cambridge

On Friday, April 3, 2026, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force, working alongside the Boston Housing Police, Massachusetts State Police and Cambridge Police, arrested a wanted fugitive and recovered an illegal firearm in Cambridge.

At approximately 11:52 a.m., officers were conducting an investigation in Cambridge into the whereabouts of Daryl Dirtion, 27, of South Boston. Dirtion was wanted on five outstanding warrants out of Suffolk Superior Court and South Boston District Court, covering the following charges:

  • Carrying a firearm without a license
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID card
  • Assault and battery
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
  • Assault and battery on a family or household member
  • Strangulation or suffocation
  • Malicious destruction of property
  • Operating an uninsured motor vehicle
  • Number plate violation to conceal identity
  • Multiple violations of an active abuse prevention order

Officers spotted Dirtion in the area of Richdale Avenue and recognized him immediately. When he noticed the officers, Dirtion took off on foot through a residential driveway and onto nearby train tracks. Officers gave chase, and during the search of his flight path, they found a black Carhartt jacket hidden beneath the rear deck of a Pemberton Street residence. Inside the jacket was a loaded Glock 22 with 15 live rounds in the magazine.

Dirtion was eventually found hiding in a shed behind a residence on Middlesex Street. He resisted arrest and refused to comply with officers’ commands, prompting a Trooper to deploy a taser after issuing verbal warnings. Dirtion then complied and was taken into custody without further incident. He was evaluated by EMS on scene and transported to Boston Medical Center for further evaluation prior to booking.

In addition to the five warrants, Dirtion faces additional charges to be filed out of Cambridge District Court by Massachusetts State Police, including:

  • Carrying a firearm without a license (second offense)
  • Possession of a large capacity firearm and feeding device
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID card
  • Firearm violation with a prior violent or drug crime
  • Breaking and entering for a misdemeanor
  • Trespassing
  • Resisting arrest
  • Disorderly conduct
