About 9:14 PM, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol in the area of Humboldt Avenue and Seaver Street. Officers could hear a motor vehicle playing loud music and a group of individuals holding cans of alcohol as they walked towards Humboldt Avenue.
As officers were monitoring the group, one of the individuals observed officers and immediately grabbed his waist and turned his body away. When police passed the group, they were then seen turning around and jogging towards a motor vehicle in attempts to flee the area.
The officers pulled in front of the suspected motor vehicle and activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. The four occupants of the motor vehicle were not wearing seatbelts, and a request was made for them to produce identifications.
After further investigation, an exit order was made of all of the occupants. When officers conducted a pat frisk of the front passenger, they recovered a firearm from his right pant pocket. The firearm was determined to be a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 with a gold light attachment and nine rounds in the magazine.
Ian Day, 21, of Sanford, Maine, was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the following charges:
- Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
- Carrying a firearm without a license
- Possession of ammunition without an FID card
