Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Arrest in Dorchester

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Jaekwan Joseph, 22, of Newton, for multiple firearm related violations.

About 10:37 PM, while patrolling the area of Washington Street, officers observed a vehicle driving towards them without a front license plate. Officers safely conducted a U-turn, and followed the vehicle onto Millet Street. An inquiry of the registration revealed that the license plate did not match the vehicle that it was affixed to.

The vehicle pulled to the side of the road near Park Street, and officers then immediately activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens. As officers made contact with the occupants, they were advised of the reason for the motor vehicle stop.

After further investigation, the occupants were requested to exit the vehicle. Officers conducted a motor vehicle inventory search and recovered a firearm from inside. District Detectives were requested to respond and process the scene. The firearm was determined to be a Smith & Wesson 9mm with one round in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine.

Joseph was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following violations:

–          Possession of Ammunition without an FID card

–          Carrying a Firearm without a License

–          Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
