Operation Safe Scooter Leads to Arrest and Multiple Scooters Towed

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End/Back Bay) conducted “Operation Safe Scooter” in response to numerous community complaints regarding illegal scooter activity and disorderly conduct in the South End, Back Bay, and Fenway neighborhoods.

The targeted enforcement effort resulted in nine unregistered motorcycles being towed for multiple motor vehicle violations.

At approximately 12:15 PM, officers entered the alley of 105-109 Peterborough Street and observed several individuals with mopeds and motorcycles occupying private residential parking spaces. During the investigation, officers identified one operator, 36-year-old Ivan Mateo-Perez of Dorchester, who was found to be unlicensed.

When advised that he could not legally operate his motorcycle, Mateo-Perez attempted to start the vehicle and flee. Officers quickly intervened, preventing his escape. After a brief struggle, Mateo-Perez was placed under arrest.

He is expected to appear in Roxbury District Court on the following charges:

  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Resisting Arrest
