On Saturday, August 30, 2025, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Ricardo Mendes, 18, of Dorchester, and a 15-year-old Juvenile male, on firearm charges and violation of auto laws.
About 4:51 PM, officers were patrolling the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Harvard Street when they were approached by a victim who was assaulted with a firearm and the suspect fled on a bike. As officers exited their cruiser to approach the suspect, he immediately fled in the opposite direction towards Harambe Park.
Officers chased after the suspect who then got off the bike and got on the back of a dirt bike with a juvenile operator. The suspects were able to make good on their escape, and a description was broadcasted.
The dirt bike was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on the sidewalk of Harvard Street towards Blue Hill Avenue. The suspects almost struck an officer who was fortunately not injured.
The suspects were seen behind 883 Blue Hill Avenue, where officers were able to block them in from both sides. A foot pursuit ensued, but both suspects were quickly apprehended.
During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered a firearm from the juvenile’s fanny pack. The firearm was determined to be a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield with seven rounds in the magazine.
Both suspects were placed under arrest and expected to be arraigned in XX District Court for the following charges:
Mendes:
– Carry a Firearm without a License
– Carry a Loaded Firearm without a License
– Possession of Ammunition without an FID card
– Two Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
15-year-old juvenile male:
– Delinquent to wit; Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
– Delinquent to wit; Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
– Delinquent to wit; Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
